Traquon "TwinGlock" McCalip, 21, who has a previous conviction for a weapon offense, was arraigned in US District Court in DC on a six-count indictment for a shooting that was reported shortly after 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue NE.
According to investigators, McCalip got into an altercation with his victim that rapidly escalated and turned physical. During that dispute, it is alleged that McCalip shot his victim and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers responded to the scene, where they recovered a gun, and the gunshot victim was taken by first responders to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Just minutes after the shooting, police say they found McCalip fleeing from the area and attempted a traffic stop, though he continued to speed away, prompting a pursuit in the area.
The 20-year-old's vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 1800 block of Bladensburg Road NE, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
Prosecutors say that on the day of the shooting, with an assist from the department's Air Support Unit, McCalip was caught with a 9mm Canik magazine and additional ammunition, which matched the handgun that was recovered at the scene of the shooting.
McCalip was charged with:
- Aggravated assault while armed;
- Two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence;
- Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon;
- Unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
No details about his next court appearance were released by prosecutors.
